Ohio Plywood Box Company
was started by Jerry Graves in the 1980’s. As an employee of Ohio Knife Company. Jerry saw the need to make wood crates, boxes and paper knife boards which were used for shipping sharp industrial knives. Paper knife boards average 6 to 8 feet in length and require a steady hand to make. Jerry was able to rent the lower level of a warehouse in Camp Washington, Ohio and make knives for his employer.
In 1986
Ohio Knife Company went into receivership, which allowed Jerry to begin making wood shipping products for more customers than Ohio Knife. In early 1991 Jerry saw a need for more space and decided to move to our current location at 5555 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45216. In this 3500 square foot building Jerry was able to expand the business to service more industries and offer a wider product line. For the last 45 years Ohio Plywood Box Company has dominated the wood box making market here in Cincinnati and surrounding areas.
Jerry Graves
passed away in 2017, and his wife Laverne stepped in to run the business for the last three years. With the help of Doug Blake (28 years), Tom Holmes (27 years) and Roger Boehm (26 years) Ohio Plywood Box did not slow down.
This “Family Business” feel is what attracted Barry Stroube to purchase wood crates for his other two businesses American Scaffolding Inc. and Industrial Wire Rope. American Scaffolding has been doing business with Jerry, Laverne and the team for the last twenty-five years. The quality of the products fabricated by Roger and Tom is what convinced Barry it would be a great company to purchase.
On December 11, 2020
Barry Stroube purchased the company and changed the name to American Plywood Box Co., LLC. With family and quality at the forefront, Tom Holmes and Roger Boehm will continue their storied history.
